Let’s Get Gritty With it!
Congratulations on scheduling your guest appearance on Gritty is the New Pretty! You have already completed your alignment form with bio and headshots now it’s time to prepare for your recording!
What you will need:
Microphone or headphones with microphone
Camera or video capability (please no phones)
Quiet space (preferably with little eco)
Strong internet connection
Brave, Chrome or Edge Browser
Things to consider:
Video Quality- please do not use your phone to join the recording session. For the better quality video and outcomes please use a computer. Usually computer video works great with adequate lighting. If you have an older computer you may want to consider using an external camera to film. You don’t have to break the bank, amazon has a lot of affordable options.
Background will be recorded so remove any unwanted items.
Lighting is really important. Natural window light facing you works great, if not external lights work great to ensure the spotlight is where is should be, on you!
Audio Quality- If you have a mic, use it! If not usually new computers or headphones with a built in mic work well. Again if you have an older computer you may want to consider an external mic, You can find external cameras with built in microphones too!
If you can hear it, it is likely to pick up in the background. This isn’t the end of the world, however a lot of constant background noice can significantly impact the recording quality.
Minimize echo. large rooms with windows and hard wood floors may echo. If you do not have an alternate space to record here are some tips and tricks to create a softer recording
couch cushions- you can prop them up behind and around your camera
lay a large blanket of the floor and/or drape them around hard surfaces
Visualize but don’t focus on a perfect interview. This is your time to shine, share your story and expertise. I want you to be heard through meaningful conversation. Think about what you want to share, make some short talking points but don’t read from a script. I promise you don’t need to! Listeners want to feel connected like they are in the room having a cup of coffee (maybe some cases a margarita) with us and this is a space where we ditch perfection and focus on your grit!
How this works:
At the time of the scheduled recording -head to the calendar invite -click on the zencaster link

You will be able to communicate with the host via your computer
A sound check and any trouble shooting will be performed
Once this is complete it’s show time!

Once it is published the recording will be shared on all GCW platforms. You will be invited to be a collaborator in the provided social media platforms. You you will also be sent an embedded code for your website (adds a player onto your webpage), just adding the link should work as well.

Frequently Asked Questions
What questions will I be asked?
1. Tell us about yourself
2. Lessons Learned (area of expertise or profession)
3. Best piece of advice (professional or personal)
There may be other questions that come up about your areas or expertise or experiences. The goal is to keep the podcast flow authentic so we try not to over prep and script.
I am not the best public speaker, how can I still sound like I know what I am talking about?
First of all, do any of us really know what we are talking about? In all seriousness, you are only speaking with the host during the recording and chances are if you are reading this now… you know what you are talking about!
What if I totally space out and forget my words?
The podcast will be edited to ensure the best listening experience for the audience and recording experience for you!
Although it’s uncommon to need to, we can discuss any things we might want to cut after the recording.
We try to keep the podcast at 30mn or less. Certain content may be cut to size it down. Other items are edited/cut to create a smooth sounding recording.
ums, lips smacks, distracting background sounds, irrelevant chatter
The less editing the better; here are some things to keep in mind.
Try not overuse “um” or “yeah”
Sounds are picked up very easily
Take your time and speak at a normal pace
It’s ok if there is a pause (that can be cut)
Leave pauses between speakers to minimize overlap
Relax and have fun!
